Summer jobs

Oulu students over 18 years old can apply for summer internships in the City of Oulu.

Summer internships are available in different service areas and utilities of the city. The jobs can include, for example, maintaining parks and outdoor sports facilities or working in libraries or museums.

The summer internships last for a month, working 30 hours a week for a gross salary of €1100.

The application period for the summer internships is from 27 January to 10 March 2025.

Please note that the main working language is Finnish and the application form on Kuntarekry is in Finnish only. However, some of the summer internships require English language skills.

How to apply for a summer internship

You can apply for a summer internship for the City of Oulu when:

• you are a student but will not graduate during the spring (except for those who will graduate from upper secondary school in spring 2025)
• your municipality of residence is Oulu
• you are 18 years of age or older by 30 April 2025
• you have not had a summer internship for the City of Oulu in 2023 or 2024

Please note that you can have only one summer internship for the City of Oulu during the same summer.

These summer internships are not study-related placements.

If you are a student over 18 years old and receive basic income support from Kela, you can apply for a City of Oulu summer job traineeship. The application period for summer job traineeships in 2025 will be announced later in the spring.

If you are a young person aged 15–17 from Oulu, you can get a summer work voucher from the City of Oulu. The summer work voucher is worth €330 and is a subsidy to the employer for hiring you.

You can use the voucher to apply for summer jobs in Oulu, Hailuoto, Ii, Kempele, Liminka, Lumijoki, Muhos, Pudasjärvi, Tyrnävä, Utajärvi and Vaala for the summer period from 1 May to 30 September. The employers can be companies, associations, organisations, clubs or foundations.

The Summer Entrepreneurship Programme is a programme for young people aged 17–29. The aim of the programme is to offer young people an alternative to traditional summer work in the form of entrepreneurship and a low-threshold opportunity to test their business idea in practice.
