Summer entrepreneurship programme

The Summer Entrepreneurship Programme is a programme for young people aged 17–29. The aim of the programme is to offer young people an alternative to traditional summer work in the form of entrepreneurship and a low-threshold opportunity to test their business idea in practice.

The programme offers you:

• Sparring weeks, during which you learn about different aspects of running a business
• Your own summer entrepreneur mentor to support and help you throughout the summer
• A €330 summer entrepreneurship grant for 17-24-year-olds (see ’Summer Entrepreneurship grant’ for more details)
• Joint events during the summer.

Apply with your own business idea. The idea does not have to be perfect at the application stage. You just need to have an initial idea of what you are interested in and what kind of business you could possibly try during the summer. Your idea can be further developed during the interview phase of the programme.

You can apply on your own or with a friend. If you are applying with a friend, please submit your own applications.

The application period for the programme was from 5 February to 5 April 2024. The application for Summer Entrepreneurship 2024 is now closed.

Summer Entrepreneurship grant

Students participating in the Oulu Summer Entrepreneurship Programme can apply for financial support of 330 euros from the City of Oulu for their business experiment. The following conditions must be met to receive the support:

• The summer entrepreneur’s place of residence is Oulu
• The summer entrepreneur is aged 17-24 at the start of the programme (born 1 May 1999 – 31 May 2007)
• The summer entrepreneur is a student, but does not graduate during the spring (except for those who will graduate from upper secondary school in spring 2024)
• The summer entrepreneur has not used a summer work voucher granted by the City of Oulu during the same year (summer work voucher and summer entrepreneur support are mutually exclusive)
• The entrepreneur has not taken up a summer work placement for City of Oulu students during the same year (summer work placements for City of Oulu students and summer entrepreneur support are mutually exclusive)
• The summer entrepreneur has not accepted a summer work placement in the City of Oulu’s facilities services for students aged 16-17 during the same year (the City of Oulu’s facilities services summer work placement for students and the summer entrepreneur support are mutually exclusive)
• The summer entrepreneur participates in the guidance provided under the programme
• The summer entrepreneurial grant is applied for separately. The aid must be used entirely for business activities
