You will receive job search advice and guidance in choosing the right services at BusinessAsema.

Once you have registered as a jobseeker, your personal coach will invite you to an initial interview. In the interview, you and your coach will discuss what kinds of jobs you could apply for, or whether you need further education or a career change.

Your personal coach will also create an employment plan with you, and you will stay in regular contact through job search discussions. Between these discussions, you will search for jobs independently or participate in services that promote employment according to your employment plan.

If you wish, you can also visit Byströmin Ohjaamo. The services at Byströmin Ohjaamo are aimed at young people and young adults under 30 living in Oulu. At Byström, you can get various types of help for different life situations, all under one roof. Together with you, the staff will consider which service is right for you.

Summer jobs

For many people, a summer job is the first step towards working life and a chance to earn some money of their own. The City of Oulu supports summer jobs for young people in many ways. Possibilities include summer job traineeship, summer job vouchers and summer entrepreneurship.

Arpeetti

Arpeetti employment entails part-time employment for students on social grounds. The service is primarily intended for students doing their first degree.

Work trial

To find out more about your career options, you can get familiarised with work through a work trial scheme. A work trial can also support your return to working life after a long absence.

The work trial is not an employment and there are no costs for the organiser. During the work trial, you are entitled to the same unemployment benefits as if you were unemployed.

You can participate in a work trial in the following situations, for example:

  • You lack professional training.
  • You need to change your field of work for health reasons or because of structural changes in the labour market.
  • You have been out of the labour market for a long time, either because of prolonged unemployment or because of family leave, for example.
  • You are considering entrepreneurship and want to explore your interest and suitability for entrepreneurship.

Workshop Activities

You can apply for a work trial position in workshop activities if you are an unemployed jobseeker or a secondary-level student aged 17–29 and living in Oulu.

The workshop period includes work at the workshop, familiarization with working life, courses, and training. During the period, you will receive guidance on everyday matters and life management, as well as support for education and employment. The duration of the workshop period is determined by your individual plan and needs. The workshops are located in Intiö and Haukipudas.
